Karrus left Liberia in 1996 when the civil war intensified. He fled by boat and ended up at the Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana. Today, more than 45000 refugees live there permanently. Through sheer dedication, he has managed to raise enough funds to set up a free school for over 500 Liberian children living in the camp.
