One way would be to have higher GPA and SATs than the average applicant. The second-tier schools want to get the “Ivy” types to go to their schools [merit-based aid]. You might also attract that type of interest if you have an “unusual” skill or one that the school particularly wants – e.g. oboe player. etc – or if you’re applying for an less-common major that the school wants to attract. The amount of the scholarship also depends somewhat on need.

Hey, I found out there are some good free scholarships that you can apply for at
Anyone regardless of age, what you are studying, or what school you go to can qualify. They range from $10k to $50k. I think it’s worth checking out!
I applied for all of them yesterday, and I’m hoping I get one! (:
